ASI Gordon Ada & Jacques Miller Senior Travel Awards
Purpose:
To support senior/mid career members of ASI who wish to travel overseas for career related travel. The awards are not restricted to a particular type or time of travel and may be given for attendance to meetings, sabbaticals, lab visits or any other kind of immunology-related travel.
Eligibility:
Members who have been full ASI members for at least 5 consecutive years prior to the submission of an application are eligible to apply.
Previous successful applicants of one of the ASI Gordon Ada or Jacques Miller Senior Travel Awards and current members of the ASI executive are not eligible to apply. Click here to download the guidelines for these awards.

Assessment Criteria:
Excellence of track record relative to opportunity, purpose of travel and career/professional benefit of the proposed travel as judged by the ASI Executive.
Value:
2 awards per year for up to $10,000 each. A medal will also be presented at the annual meeting following the award.

Immunology & Cell Biology Publication of the Year Award
Purpose:
To reward the best original research article published in Immunology & Cell Biology in that year with an ASI member as first author.
Eligibility:
Financial members of ASI who are the first author on any Original articles, Outstanding Observation articles, Theoretical articles or Short Communications published in Immunology & Cell Biology and who are financial members of ASI by 31st October in the year in which the paper is published
Application procedure:
None required
Assessment Criteria:
Scientific excellence, originality and clarity of presentation of the paper, as judged by a panel comprising the Immunology & Cell Biology Editor, ASI Vice/Past President and current ASI President.
Value:
$1,000 - sponsored by Nature Publishing

Postdoctoral International Travel Awards
Purpose:
To support travel to overseas conferences. These awards are offered twice a
year.

Assessment Criteria:
Scientific excellence and clarity of abstract, publication record, recommendation of supervisor, and likely professional benefits of the proposed travel, as judged by the ASI Executive Committee or their nominees. The committee reserves the right not to make an award.
Value:
A variable number of prizes will be awarded per annum, subject to funding availability, between the Postdoctoral and Postgraduate International Travel Awards. Postgraduate and Postdoctoral candidates will be considered separately. Each prize will be worth up to $5,000.

Postgraduate International Travel Awards

ASI New Investigator Award
Purpose:
To reward the best presentation by a new investigator selected to speak in the New Investigators Symposium at the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting.
Eligibility:
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral investigators (with up to 3 years' research experience after award of PhD) who have been ASI members for the preceding year and the year of the award and have paid their subscription by April 1 of the current year.
Application procedure:
Send a brief CV, a copy of the submitted first-author abstract and a letter of support from your supervisor to the meeting organising committee (c/- Dr Judith Greer) including "ASI New Investigator Award" in the subject line, by the 18th September. Four to six presenters will be selected by the meeting organising committee. If you have not received confirmation of receipt of your application within 3 days, please email newinvestigator@gmail.com.
Assessment Criteria:
Excellence and originality of scientific content, clarity and organisation of oral and audiovisual presentation, as judged by a panel, none of whom is a past or present supervisor of any speaker.
Value:
$1000 sponsored by ASI and presented at the meeting.

BD Science Communication Award
Purpose:
To foster clear communication of exciting science to the media and the public.
Eligibility:
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral investigators (with up to 3 years' research experience after award of PhD) who have been ASI members for the preceding year and the year of the meeting and have paid their subscription by April 1 of the current year.
Application procedure:
A 350 word "non-scientific language" abstract should be submitted to Dr Ray Steptoe at r.steptoe@uq.edu.au, including "BD Science Communication Award" in the subject line, by the 18th September; this is separate from the scientific abstract you submit online. The meeting organizing committee will short-list abstracts for oral presentation. Selected applicants will make an oral presentation at the annual scientific conference in the BD Science Communication Award session.
Assessment Criteria:
The award will be made to the presentation judged to best combine good science with clear communication by a panel consisting of immunologists, a science journalist and a lay person.
Value:
$500 sponsored by BD and presented at the meeting.

Travel Bursaries
Purpose:
To enable student and early postdoc members to attend the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting.
Eligibility:
Postgraduate students who have been members of ASI for the year of the meeting and have paid their subscription by April 1. Eligibility has been extended to early postdocs (up to 3 years post acceptance of PhD) who have been full or student members (not interim) of ASI for the year prior and the year of the meeting, and have paid their subscription by April 1 in the year of the meeting. Applicants must live outside the city where the meeting is being held, and have not been a recipient of a travel bursary in previous years.
Application procedure:
To apply please send a copy of your CV (in word format) and your abstract for this year's meeting to Dr Alejandro Lopez at alejL@qimr.edu.au, including "ASI Travel Bursary" in the subject line, by 18 September (which is also the closing date for early registration and for abstract submission).
Assessment Criteria:
Primarily the scientific excellence and clarity of abstract, the CV and, to a lesser extent, the distance from the site of the meeting, as judged by a panel of judges appointed by the local organising committee of the meeting
Value:
Conference Registration plus a reasonably priced return domestic airfare (NZ counts as domestic airfare for this purpose only)

Immunology and Cell Biology and ASI Student Poster Prizes
Purpose:
To reward the best student posters at the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting.
Eligibility:
Students who are ASI members for the year of the meeting. The student must be first author on the poster.
Application procedure:
Apply by writing "Student" on the submitted abstract and by placing a sticker on the poster (stickers supplied at meeting).One prize per poster session will be awarded.
Assessment Criteria:
Excellence and originality of scientific content, clarity of presentation and visual impact, as judged by a panel of immunologists.
Value:
$500 per award sponsored by Immunology and Cell Biology and ASI and presented at the meeting.

Graham Jackson Memorial Mucosal Immunology Prize
Purpose:
To reward the best poster or oral presentation by a research student or postdoctoral investigator in the area of Mucosal Immunology at the ASI SIG Mucosal Immunology Workshop/Symposium.
Eligibility:
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral investigators (with up to 2 years' research experience after award of PhD) who are current ASI members.
Application procedure:
Apply by submitting an abstract through the standard procedures for the ASI conference. Select the "Mucosal Immunology" category and select the "Graham Jackson Memorial Prize" under the ASI Lodgement questions page. For posters, place a sticker which will be supplied by the Registration Desk, in the top right hand corner of the poster.
Assessment Criteria:
Excellence and originality of scientific content in Mucosal Immunology, clarity of presentation, as judged by a panel of peers, none of whom is a past or present supervisor of any applicant.
Value:
Graham Jackson Memorial Mucosal Immunology Prize:
$250 each sponsored by ASI SIG MI and presented at the meeting.
Normally one prize is awarded, however in exceptional circumstances up to three may be awarded.
Society for Mucosal Immunology:
From time to time the Society for Mucosal Immunology sponsors one or more poster prizes up to the value of $500.
