The Journal, originally The Australian Journal of Experimental Biology and Medical Science, has been published since 1923, and is now the official journal of ASI. It is published by Nature Publishing Group and has a wide distribution to overseas libraries. ASI members receive a substantially discounted subscription rate to the Journal of $35.

Under the editorship of Chris Parish, and with the strong support of ASI, the Journal is experiencing a revival. There are at present 8 issues per year, and the journal covers a wide range of topics, with cell biology and theoretical papers actively encouraged.
