Postgraduate International Travel Awards

Purpose:

To support student members of ASI who wish to travel overseas for career-related purposes.  For example this may include, but not be limited to, travel for conferences (excluding the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting), establish new collaborations, and/or learn a new technique. These awards are offered twice a year. 
Please note that Higher Degree students, Honours students and Research Technicians are all eligible to apply for Postgraduate Travel Awards.

Eligibility:

  • Higher Degrees students, Honours students and Research Technicians are eligible to apply. 
  • Applicants must have been full (not interim) Ordinary or Student members of ASI in the year preceding the application.
  • Applicants must have paid their membership subscription before 1st April of the year of application. 
  • Applicants who have previously received an ASI Postgraduate International Travel Award are ineligible.

Application procedure:

  1. Head to the Career Advancement Award page and follow the instructions to apply. You may find it useful to click here to refer back to the outdated Postgraduate International Travel Award application form if you are applying for travel funding in your Career Advancement Award application.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Scientific excellence and clarity of abstract
  • C.V. and publication record
  • Recommendation of supervisor
  • Likely professional benefits of the proposed travel, as judged by the ASI Executive Committee or their nominees.

The committee reserves the right not to make an award.

Value:

A variable number of prizes will be awarded per annum, subject to funding availability, between the Postdoctoral and Postgraduate International Travel Awards.  Each prize may be worth up to $3,000.

Successful Recipients - how to claim your ASI Award:

Please log in to your member profile to submit your Newsletter contribution, provide receipts to support your claim (flights and proof of attendance, e.g. scanned copy of name badge), and to initiate the reimbursement process.

Postdoctoral International Travel Awards

Purpose:

To support early-mid career members of ASI who wish to travel overseas for career-related purposes.  For example this may include, but not be limited to, travel for conferences (excluding the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting), establish new collaborations, and/or learn a new technique. These awards are offered twice a year. 

Eligibility:

  • Postdoctoral investigators with up to 6 years post-doctoral research experience (counted at application deadline). Some career disruptions (such as maternity leave) may be taken into account. Please provide details if you feel that you are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must have been full (not interim) Ordinary members of ASI in the year preceding the application.
  • Applicants must have paid their membership subscription before 1st April of the year of application. 
  • Applicants who have previously received an ‘ASI Postdoctoral International Travel Award’ are ineligible.
