ASI is committed to promoting gender equity and diversity at our annual meetings. As part of our commitment to promoting gender equity and diversity, we are offering:

• ASI Women's initiative Travel Awards (up to AUD1,000 each)
• ASI Annual Meeting Scientific Meeting Carer Grants (up to AUD1,000 each)

ASI Women’s Initiative Travel Award

Purpose

To facilitate women with parental responsibilities to attend either the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting or another conference. These awards are intended to support women who are the primary carer of one or more children of primary school age or younger, by contributing to the costs associated with childcare while the recipient is attending the conference. This award aims to assist talented ASI researchers to disseminate their findings and build career connections at a conference they might have otherwise found difficult to attend.

Funds may be used in any way that suits the recipient’s personal circumstances, including but not limited to:

• Travel and accommodation for children
• Travel and accommodation for a companion to provide childcare
• Employment of a carer while the care-giver is away
• Before- or after-school care for children while the care-giver is away
• Local formal childcare costs
• Additional days of formal childcare at home while awardees are traveling

ASI Annual Meeting Carer’s Grants

Purpose

To help all genders with parental responsibilities, we now offer ASI Carer’s Grants to offset the costs of caring either at home or at the meeting.

The award cannot be used for normal care costs, but only for additional care arrangements required to enable carers to attend a branch meeting. Such costs include:

• Employment of a carer while the primary carer is away 
• Before- or after-school care for children while the primary carer is away 
• Travel costs for a dependant (and carer) to accompany the primary carer to the meeting 
• Travel costs for a relative or substitute carer to care for a dependent at home while the primary carer is away
