In celebration of “Day of Immunology” The Australian and New Zealand Society of Immunology and The Garvan Institute of Medical Research welcomes motivated & enthusiastic Year 11 or 12 high school students to join us on the  Garvan STEM Career Discovery Tour on Friday 19th May 2023. 

Year 11 and Year 12 students who are passionate about science will be inspired and encouraged to explore their curiosity about a rewarding career in scientific research.

When: Friday 19th May 2023
Time: Approx. 8:30am – 2.15pm
Where: Garvan Institute of Medical Research, 384 Victoria Street Darlinghurst Sydney 2010

The Garvan Institute of Medical Research brings together clinicians with world-leading basic and translational researchers. We are patient-focused — our researchers break down barriers between traditional scientific disciplines to find solutions to disease.
 

Provided on the day: 

• Lab coats & safety glasses where required 
• Morning tea (drinks, biscuits, fruit) 

ℹ️ Teachers, please note due to space restraints, at this time, we will only be accepting maximum 10 students per school.  Each student will need to register separately.
ℹ️ Please note our registrations will cease when we reach our maximum quota of students/schools so please be quick to register.

8:30 – 9:00 am: Registration             
9:00 – 9.30 am: Welcome & Introduction                
9.40 - 10.30 am: Practical Session 1 (2-3 pracs)              
10.40 -11.15 am: Morning Tea            
11.25 - 12.15pm: Practical Session 2 (2-3 pracs)             
12.25 - 1.10 pm: Lunch              
1.15 – 2 pm: Careers in medical research seminars & Q&A session              
2 – 2:15 pm: Wrap up & Conclusion

This is a COVID-safe event

Your health and safety are of the utmost importance. There will be COVID-19 safe measures at this event. 

Visiting students and teachers are allowed onsite, only if they: 

• Are feeling well and do not have a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath or other COVID-19 or respiratory infection symptoms 
• Have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 or another acute respiratory infection in the last 7 days 
• Are 7 days post initial COVID-19 infection and wear a mask whilst on-site until day 10 
• Have not been a household contact or identified as a high-risk contact in the last 7 days
