Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and successful individual who can conduct independent, high-quality research and teaching primarily in the areas of Bioinformatics/Computational Biology as it relates to the fields of Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biophysics, and/or Cell and Molecular Biology. The research and teaching expertise of the applicant should complement existing research strengths within the School of Chemistry and Molecular Bioscience. Additional desirable skills include the ability to develop a research program that capitalises on the existing world-class infrastructure at the University of Wollongong, as well as the capacity to apply bioinformatics and computational biology approaches across various “omics” technologies and other forms of high-content data.

Required Skills

Essential:

  • Completed PhD in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biophysics, Cell and Molecular Biology or related field.
  • Postdoctoral experience in one or more of the above listed areas with demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics/computational biology.
  • Outstanding track record of scholarly activities relative to career-stage, including high-quality impactful publications. Ability and willingness to supervise honours and higher degree research students. Capacity to establish/continue a research program that has the potential to attract external funding, including from major competitive external funding bodies, and that complements existing strengths within the School.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver high quality teaching within the courses offered by the School.
  • Demonstrated track-record of collaborative work within research teams and projects to produce impactful research outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to WH&S, Risk Management, Quality Assurance and EED principles as they relate to this position.
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying culturally respectful and safe practices in the workplace and demonstrating respect and inclusiveness of diverse people in all work practices.

Desirable:

  • Capacity to develop or continue a research program that capitalise on the existing world-class infrastructure at the University of Wollongong.
  • Capacity to apply bioinformatics and computational biology approaches across various “omics” technologies and other forms of high-content data.
