Abstract submission and award application deadline now extended to 10th September 2018

LAST CHANCE! Abstract submissions for the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting close soon (now extended to 10th September 2018), so we’d like to remind you of the fantastic ASI Meeting Awards, Subsidies and Travel Bursaries currently on offer.

What’s New This Year at ASI Perth 2018?

  • We have DOUBLED our Travel Bursary total funding to $40 000 this year, so your chances of success are even greater:
    • Postgraduate Students- your chances are ~ 1 in 2!
    • Postdoctorate Investigators- your chances are ~ 2 in 3!
  • For the FIRST time, we will have childcare facilities on site. Costs are subsidised by ASI. We support and encourage you to bring your families to explore Perth with you.
  • We have INCREASED our Womens Initiative Travel Awards this year.

ASI New Investigator Award

Rewards the best presentation in the New Investigators Symposium at the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting. The New Investigators Symposium is sponsored by Pfizer.

How do I enter?
When you submit your abstract under “5. Nominations & Final Check” check the box for “I wish to nominate for the New Investigator Prize” and then submit a CV and letter of support from your supervisor as instructed. The best abstracts will then be selected to speak in the New Investigators Symposium.

Who is eligible?
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral investigators (with up to 3 years' research experience after completion of PhD) who have been ASI members for the preceding year and the year of the award and have paid their subscription by April 1 of the current year.

BD Science Communication Award

Rewards the speaker best able to communicate their research to a lay audience.

How do I enter?
Submit an abstract in lay language by scrolling down to the 'BD Science Communication Award' section on the Abstract submission page.
Note that if you also want to give a science talk or have a poster you should submit a second abstract written in normal scientific language.

Who is eligible?
Postgraduate students and postdoctoral investigators (with up to 3 years' research experience after completion of PhD) who have been ASI members for the preceding year and the year of the award and have paid their subscription by April 1 of the current year.

Immunology & Cell Biology, Clinical & Translational Immunology, and ASI Student Poster Prizes

Rewards the best student posters.

How do I enter?
When you submit your abstract under “5. Nominations & Final Check” check the box for “I wish to nominate my submission for a Poster Prize”

Who is eligible?
Students who are ASI members for the year of the meeting and are first author on the poster.

ASI Travel Bursaries - DOUBLED THIS YEAR!

To enable Student and Junior Postdoctoral ASI members to attend the ASI Annual Scientific Meeting.

We are excited to announce that we have doubled our Postgraduate and Postdoctoral Travel Bursaries this year!

All ASI Travel Bursary applicants will be considered by a panel of judges, and the highest ranked applicant will receive the Pharmaxis-ASI Travel Bursary.

How do I apply?
Send a brief CV including publications, previous conference presentations and a copy of the abstract for the annual meeting (max 4 pages, submit as a pdf, name the file “SURNAME First name Bursary”) to [email protected]. Please use "ASI Travel Bursary Application – SURNAME First Name" in the subject line.

Who is eligible?

  • Postgraduate students who have been members of ASI for the year of the meeting and have paid their subscription by 1st April in the year of the meeting.
  • Junior Postdoctoral Fellows (up to 3 years post completion of PhD) who have been Ordinary or Student Members (not Interim) of ASI for the year prior and the year of the meeting, and have paid their membership by 1st April in the year of the meeting.

Women's Initiative Travel Awards

ASI Women’s Initiative is offering 4 Travel Awards (up to AUD1000 each) for members to be able to provide a more flexible approach to facilitate women with parental responsibilities to attend our society’s annual national meeting. The awards are intended to support women to attend annual ASI meetings who are the primary carer of one or more children of primary school age or younger.

How do I apply?
Please visit the Women’s Initiative page here to download the guidelines and application form. Fill out the application form and send it together with a 2 page CV and Letter of support from your Head of Department/Head of School to [email protected].

Who is eligible?
To be eligible for the scholarship women must:

  • Have already secured some or all funding for your conference attendance (e.g. your conference registration, flights etc)
  • Be the primary carer of one or more dependent children of primary school age, or younger.
  • Be an Ordinary or Student member of ASI (not Interim) at the time of applying
  • Have not previously received a ASI Women’s Initiative Travel Award
  • Contribute to ASI newsletter on conclusion of the travel
