A special issue to celebrate IWD in 2025

A Wiley interdisciplinary special issue on Gender Equity in Healthcare will be released on International Women’s Day 2025, featuring contributions from 51 journals. Immunology & Cell Biology (ICB) invites ASI members to contribute to this initiative.

ICB’s feature, “Advancing Equity and Inclusion in Healthcare: An Immunological Call to Action,” will address the underrepresentation of all minorities (gender, ethnicity, disability) in healthcare, including funding disparities, research biases, publishing disparities, and access to mentorship and institutional support.

Don't miss this wonderful opportunity to contribute

ICB invites articles on the following topics for the ICB Immunology Futures Special Feature, to be published in March 2025 for International Women’s Day. Wiley will select relevant publications for inclusion in their Gender Equity in Healthcare Multi-Journal Special Issue.

Improving Access and Removing Barriers: Research should dismantle systemic barriers and enhance healthcare access for marginalized communities, including different cultures and genders. For instance, increasing vaccine access in lower socioeconomic or isolated communities can reduce gender disparities in disease outcomes.

Patient-Centered Approaches: In immunology, patient-centered approaches can address the unique needs of diverse populations, leading to more effective healthcare delivery. Understanding gender-specific or race-specific, such as indigenous, immune responses can improve vaccine strategies, including influenza or COVID-19.

Addressing the Gender Data Gap: Ensuring diverse gender representation in clinical trials can lead to more effective treatments, such as for autoimmune diseases.

Combatting Bias: Initiatives to eliminate bias in research and medical education are crucial for fostering inclusivity. Gender and ethinc-balanced research teams can mitigate biases in study design and outcomes.

Promoting Representation and Leadership: Encouraging underrepresented minorities to take leadership roles in immunology fosters a diverse and innovative research environment.
