We invite nominations for ASI Council 2025

We are pleased to now invite nominations to ASI Council, for appointment after the Annual General Meeting on Nov 27th 2024.

It's a great time to get involved with ASI. Membership numbers and engagement are at a record high for the society, as we continue to offer wonderful opportunities and create new initiatives for our members.

Positions will commence immediately after the 2024 Annual General Meeting on November 27th 2024.

Eligibility

Nominees must be current ASI members and have paid their membership subscription before 1st April 2024.

How to submit a nomination

Nominations are extended to October 14th 2024 at 23:59 AEDT for the following positions only:

  • Deputy Secretary
  • Annual Meeting Coordinator
  • Social Media Coordinator
  • Digital News & Communications Coordinator

Nominations are to be submitted by the nominee in their ASI member portals, according to the instructions below. Please note that current position holders may renominate.  

Submission Procedure

  1. Click here to download the Council nomination form.  Please note you are asked to provide a 200 word biography, which will be used during the member voting ballot process.
  2. Save your file as "LASTNAME YYYY_Council”
  3. Log in to your member profile, click on 'Applications' and follow the prompts. 

Council positions open for nominations

Voting Council:

🟢 Deputy Secretary - 4 year total term comprising 1 year as Deputy Secretary,  2 years as Secretary, and 1 year as Immediate Past Secretary.
As a member of the Executive Committee, the Deputy Honorary Secretary holds a key governance role in ASI activities, meetings and general decision-making.  Working closely with the Secretary, the Deputy Secretary serves 1 year 'shadowing' the Secretary in preparation for the following year.  The ASI Secretary role holds the central role in awards governance and overseeing awards processes.

Non-Voting Council:

🟢 Digital News & Communications Coordinator (formerly the Newsletter Editor) - 3 year term
Serves as one of the key coordinators of the ASI Digital News content, responsible for liaising with awardees who contribute their content to the Digital News blog. This role is well-supported by the ASI staff team and also serves to coordinate and manage the content received by ASI Sustaining Members.

🟢 Annual Meeting Coordinator - 3 year term
Liaises with Local Organising Committees of the Annual Scientific Meetings to facilitate knowledge transfer between conferences.  This position serves as the main liaison with event organising companies and is accountable for keeping the ASI Meeting Guidelines policy document updated.  

🟢 Social Media Coordinator - 3 year term
Manages, moderates, and creates content for the ASI social media accounts.  Importantly, this position displays the highest level of professional conduct when representing ASI's best interests on social media.  

Ballot process

A ballot will be held if more than one nomination is received for any position. 
If only one nomination is received the nominee will be declared elected, unopposed.

For national positions the ballot will involve all current ASI members.
For the regional / branch positions, the ballot will be organised centrally but votes will only involve members from that branch.
