ASI is pleased to announce the creation of a new award The Jared Purton - ASI award
The Jared Purton - ASI award
for research to be undertaken during 2017
The deadline for submissions is December 3rd.
Background: This award was established in memoriam of Jared Purton, a promising young Immunologist from Melbourne who tragically died in 2009 during his postdoctoral time in the US. The prize money is donated by Jared's parents.
Purpose: The Jared Purton – ASI award seeks to recognise an Early to Mid - Career Researcher with the aim to further advance their research at a critical point in their career. The prize is currently worth $5000. The use of the prize money is determined by the awardee but must directly support their research. Some examples include, but are not limited to: provision of child care while attending a conference; travel support to attend a conference; travel support to visit collaborators; support to buy equipment or special reagents not otherwise funded.
Criteria: The chief criterion for the Jared Purton Award is that the funds and recognition by the Society will make a major difference to the career advancement of the awardee. Selection of the awardee will be based on this criterion, with preference for outstanding individuals not already recognised by awards of this stature, taking into account the prior achievements relative to opportunity (CV), evidence of leadership, and the expected benefits to the applicant's research (proposed use of the prize money). The selection of the awardee will be made by the ASI Executive committee (or their delegates).
Eligibility: All ASI members with membership current for at least the year prior to and during the year of application are eligible to apply. Awardees are required to maintain their membership during the year the research funded by the award is being undertaken.
Application process: Applications are open now and will close on the 3rd of December for the research to be undertaken during 2017. Applications should include a 2 page CV, an outline of what the prize would be used for and how this will advance the research of the awardee (1/2 page max).
Ceremony and ASI newsletter: An award ceremony with a formal presentation of the award will be part of the closing ceremony at the ASI annual scientific meeting in 2017. The awardee is required to write an article for the ASI newsletter about how the award has been used in the year the research is undertaken.
