Bugs, bumps & Bites – How our Immune system tackles Geelong’s & abroad infectious diseases.

Meet our researchers at Geelong’s hub of Infectious Disease and Immunology Research excellence. Visit us and attend a public lecture by some of our leading infection & immunity researchers!

As part of the annual Day of Immunology activities in Victoria, Deakin School of Medicine is proud to invite members of the public to attend our Discovery Tour, where our passionate research scientists in the field of infection & immunity will give a talk about their work and how they positively impact the world. There will be games and an opportunity to ask questions & chat to some of our passionate research staff and PhD students about their work and potential career pathways.

Topics will include influenza, flesh eating bacteria, autoimmune diseases, Q-fever, allergies and more.
This is a free event open to all members of the public.

Lunch will be provided.

At Deakin School of Medicine, our Infection, Immunity and Cancer team undertakes discovery-based research focused on understanding the molecular basis of health and disease at the individual and population level. Deakin University and Barwon Health partners together to form the research network Centre for Innovation in Infectious Disease and Immunology Research (CIIDIR), that leverages existing strengths in human infectious disease and immunology research.

Parking info

There are lots of parking opportunities around the building although many of the close parking bays are 2 hours.

One of the closest carparks is Little Malop Street Car Park on Little Malop St.

There is longer term on street parking a 5-10 minute walk to HERB.

The purpose of the Day of Immunology is to strengthen public awareness of immunology as a basis for individual health and well-being.
Established in 2005 by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS), the success of Day of Immunology led to it being celebrated worldwide since 2007. Day of Immunology has been celebrated by ASI since 2009.
