Go behind the scenes of one of Victoria's leading medical research institutes

As part of the Day of Immunology celebration events organised by ASI, the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) is opening its doors to the public.

Discovery tours provide a unique opportunity for the community to explore cutting-edge medical research, see our state-of-the-art facilities, learn about our exciting discoveries and talk to passionate scientists about their research.

The $100 million LIMS facility is the interface between La Trobe and local and global biotechnology companies, and a key player in the development of an ambitious Northern Bioscience Precinct in Melbourne’s fast-growing northern region.

LIMS is at the forefront of scientific research, tackling global health challenges through innovations in molecular science, biochemistry, and immunology. Our researchers collaborate with leading scientists worldwide to drive breakthroughs in disease treatment, diagnostics, and therapeutics.

Discovery Tour details:

  • Tours are free and because they are very interactive, they will run for approximately 90 minutes.
  • Tour groups will walk around, touch and interact with a working laboratory and therefore closed-toe shoes (preferably flat) must be worn. Lab coats will be provided by LIMS. Tours will involve hands on activities in the lab!
  • Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. The day will start with a presentation from LIMS immunologist Dr Emma Grant
  • If visitors are feeling unwell, please do not attend this event.
  • The minimum age for discovery tour attendees is 12 years old. All children under 18 years must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
  • This event is wheelchair accessible.

Photography: Participants are welcome to take photographs during the tour, but please frame working scientists outside of the photos unless permission is given.

Getting to the Institute:

LIMS is located at La Trobe University, Bundoora campus, easily accessible via public transport and major roadways.

Public Transport: Tram Route 86 runs from Docklands to Bundoora RMIT, with a stop near La Trobe University. Alternatively, several bus routes service the university.

Parking: On-campus parking is readily available in designated areas. All tours will be held in the LIMS building and therefore Car Park 1 is the most accessible.

Join us for this exclusive behind-the-scenes experience and discover how LIMS is shaping the future of medical research!
