As part of the Day of Immunology celebration events organised by ASI, Peter MacCallum Caner Centre is opening its doors to the public.Come and hear from the brilliant cancer immunology researchers at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and tour our laboratories. As Australia’s largest dedicated cancer research site, Peter Mac has over 700 research staff who study ways to improve cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The Cancer Immunology Program investigates how to utilise our own immune system to recognise and fight cancer the same way we recover from common colds through cancer immunotherapies.

  • Hear from leading immunology scientists about the latest advances in immunology-based cancer therapies.
  • Take a guided tour of our state-of-the-art lab facilities.
  • Enjoy light refreshments and chat with our expert immunology team about their research.

Discover Tour details

  • Tours are free and run for approximately 75 minutes. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
  • As tour groups visit a working laboratory, closed toe shoes (preferably flat) must be worn for occupational health and safety reasons.
  • The minimum age for discovery tour attendees is 12 years old. All children between 12-18 years old need to be accompanied by an adult.
  • This event is wheelchair accessible.

Getting to the Institute

The entrance of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is located at 305 Grattan Street. Our researchers will meet you in the ground floor foyer and escort you through our facilities. 

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is easily accessible by the No.19 tram at Stop 10 Royal Melbourne Hospital/Royal Pde or the 58/59 trams at Stop 14, Royal Melbourne Hospital/Flemington Rd.  There is limited ticketed parking on-street and at surrounding car parking.

The purpose of the Day of Immunology is to strengthen public awareness of immunology as a basis for individual health and well-being.
Established in 2005 by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS), the success of Day of Immunology led to it being celebrated worldwide since 2007. Day of Immunology has been celebrated by ASI since 2009.
