Contribute to one of the oldest immunology journals in existence
Founded in 1924 as the Australian Journal of Experimental Biology and Medical Science, and renamed Immunology & Cell Biology in 1987, ICB is one of the oldest immunology journals in existence. ICB has played a historic role in the development of immunology as a topic of research excellence in Australia and New Zealand, as the society journal for ASI. The impact of ICB has been international, publishing key insights into immunology such as the identification of colony-stimulating factors (CSFs) by Don Metcalf and the development of the clonal selection theory by Macfarlane Burnet. In recent decades, the journal has become truly international, with an editorial team that reflects the global reach of ICB's immunology research.
Your opportunity to be an ICB News & Commentary Editor
Immunology & Cell Biology is seeking applicants for the position of News & Commentary Editor to support the ICB Editorial Team.
The Editorial Team make critical contributions to the continuing success of ICB and to raising the profile of ICB locally and internationally.
The primary responsibility of the News & Commentary Editor is to support the Editor-in-Chief in maintaining and building ICB as a definitive source of primary immunology research.
The News & Commentary Editor will be part of the ICB Editorial Team consisting of the Editor-in-Chief, five Deputy Editors, one Special Features Editor, and an Associate Editor.
We are seeking a mid-senior career Immunologist with a special interest in journal editorial processes.
She, he or they will:
- work alongside the other News & Commentary Editor to commission experts to write a citeable commentary on an accepted paper
- consider News & Commentary article submissions for publication in ICB.
- ensure the highest standards of scientific excellence of the journal content
- promote the journal and its engagement with its readers.
The ICB Editorial Team adheres to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
The term of service for this honorary position is from now to December 2026.

Applicants do not need to be a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Immunology Inc. and may be situated outside of Australasia.
